Chicken Coop Annoys Neighbors!
I got a visit from the city last week. The Town Planner came by and asked me to move the chicken coop out of the front yard. Apparently, some of my neighbors complained about it. So, I pushed the ladies behind the front line of the house.

On the plus side, he was very nice and I found out that they took pictures of the coop to use as an example of the standard the town will hold future chicken coops.

What do you get when you cross a chicken with a mobile home?

I guess you'll have to wait and see.

Seven Days of Chicken

This is one of the Twins - She's Minnie - Minerva Louise. She has a smaller white patch on her head than her twin. She weighed 2.8 ounces at day seven.







Here's the other twin - Gertrude - not Gertie. She also weighed 2.8 ounces.







Here's Hazel. She's the easter egg hen - she has fat cheeks of down that make her head perfectly round. She weighed 2.4 ounces.









This is Camilla. She weighed 2.0 ounces at seven days old.

June 2 - Chicken Update

Tomorrow the chicks will be 7 days old! I am going to weigh them and will post the weights and photos. The blog is now open to the public - so anyone should be able to log on to check out my chickies. Here's Camilla in the spot light. She is a crested polish and will sport a large white 'fro when she grows up. She is named for a nun at St. Mary's - and for Gonzo the Great's beloved.

Baby Chicks!

My chicks are finally ordered! I ordered 10. Four will live at my house and six will go to the hospital where Justin works. I ordered: 2 Ameraucanas (they lay blue and green eggs), 2 Dominques (or 'Domineckers' as grandmama calls them), 2 silver laced Wyandottes, 1 Cuckoo Marans (lays chocolate Brown eggs), 1 naked necked Turken (guess who picked that one), 1 white crested black polish, and 1 Delaware.

My chicks are still a glimmer in some rooster's eye. They won't be laid until around May 5. Their mothers will sit on them for 21 days. On May 26th they'll be sexed and vaccinated. And on May 27th they will be put in a box and sent in the US Mail from Connecticut to Maryland. I'm supposed to warn my mailman. They will live off their internal yoke until they get to my house where they will want lots of fresh food and water.
